Slimline Tile-In Stair Nosing for Ceramic, Porcelain & Stone Stairs

The 45 x 20mm aluminium tile-in stair nosing is purpose-built for tiled staircases where a clean, flush finish matters. Unlike surface-mounted profiles, the perforated anchoring flange on this tile-in design is embedded directly into the tile adhesive bed during installation — leaving no visible fixings, no surface screws and no raised edges once surrounding tiles are laid. The finished step edge looks completely seamless and performs reliably under heavy daily footfall in both residential and commercial settings.

A textured non-slip PVC insert runs the full length of the profile, providing firm grip across the tread edge where smooth ceramic or porcelain tiles would otherwise present a slip hazard. Eleven insert colour options let you choose a contrasting shade for step-edge visibility or a complementary tone to blend with your tile choice.

Two Depth Options: 10mm and 12.5mm

Supplied in 10mm and 12.5mm depth options to match the most common ceramic and porcelain tile build-ups. The 10mm version suits standard floor tiles; the 12.5mm suits thicker tiles or builds where the combined tile and adhesive depth is greater. Selecting the correct depth ensures the nosing sits perfectly flush with the finished tile surface.

Where to Use This Profile

Primarily specified for ceramic and porcelain tiled staircases, this profile also suits stone, slate and terrazzo steps, and where tiled stairs meet adjacent laminate or timber surfaces. Suitable for domestic and commercial projects.

  • Residential tiled staircases — hallways, kitchens, basements, garden rooms
  • Commercial and hospitality interiors with ceramic or stone stairs
  • New-build and renovation projects using rectified ceramic tiles
  • Wet areas including pool surrounds, spa steps and changing room stairs
  • Mixed-material stairs where tiles meet laminate or engineered wood

Why Specify a Tile-In Stair Nosing?

A surface-mounted stair nosing sits on top of the finished tile after tiling is complete. A tile-in nosing is integrated into the tiling process itself — the anchoring flange is bedded into adhesive alongside the surrounding tiles, creating a fully flush, gap-free edge with no risk of lifting over time. For high-traffic commercial staircases, wet environments or any project where finish quality and long-term durability are non-negotiable, a tile-in profile is the professional specification choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a tile-in stair nosing installed?

Apply tile adhesive to the stair tread in the normal way. Position the nosing at the front edge of the step with the perforated anchoring flange sitting in the adhesive bed. Lay surrounding tiles flush with the nosing surface and allow full adhesive cure time before use. No additional fixings are required.

Which depth should I choose — 10mm or 12.5mm?

The correct depth depends on your tile thickness and adhesive bed depth. For standard ceramic or porcelain tiles (8-10mm) with a 3-4mm adhesive bed, the 10mm option is usually correct. For thicker tiles (12mm+) or a larger adhesive bed, choose 12.5mm to ensure the nosing sits flush with the finished surface.

Can this profile be cut to length?

Yes. The aluminium profile can be cut cleanly to your required length with a mitre saw or angle grinder fitted with a metal cutting disc. Cut before installation and remove any burrs with a fine file for a neat edge.

Is this DDA compliant?

The profile provides an anti-slip PVC insert and a defined step edge, which contribute to stair safety. For formal DDA or Part M compliance, the selected insert colour should provide a minimum LRV contrast of 30 points against the surrounding tile surface. Contact us if you need guidance on colour selection for compliance purposes.

What colours are available?

The PVC insert is available in 11 colours: White, Black, Brown, Beige, Canvas, Red, Dolphin Grey, Ice Grey, Midnight Grey, Yellow and Cobalt Blue.

Can I use this with any tile adhesive?

Yes. The perforated aluminium flange bonds with standard floor tile adhesives including cement-based and flexible polymer-modified types. Use a full bed of adhesive with no voids beneath the flange for maximum bond strength.
