40 x 20mm Heavy Duty External Stair Nosing with Rubber Insert
The 40 x 20mm external stair nosing is a heavy duty anodised aluminium profile designed specifically for outdoor staircases where weather resistance, durability and slip resistance are essential. The double anti-slip rubber insert provides reliable grip underfoot in both wet and dry conditions, making it ideal for external steps in residential gardens, commercial entrances and public walkways.
The anodised aluminium channel is resistant to corrosion, making it well suited to external environments exposed to rain, frost and UV. Once the rubber insert is snapped into place, there are no visible screws or plugs — just a clean, professional finish.
Two Installation Options
Each nosing is supplied with a mechanical fixing kit (4 plugs and screws) for a secure, permanent fix to concrete, stone or timber steps. A self-adhesive option is also available for surfaces where drilling is not practical.
Colour Options
- Silver With Black Rubber — high-contrast finish, clearly visible on light-coloured steps
- Silver With Grey Rubber — subtle finish that blends with stone and concrete surfaces

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this suitable for outdoor use?
Yes — this nosing is specifically designed for external use. The anodised aluminium is corrosion resistant and the rubber insert maintains its grip properties in wet and cold conditions, making it well suited to outdoor steps year-round.
How do I install it on external steps?
Remove the rubber insert to expose the pre-drilled fixing holes. Mark and drill pilot holes in your step, insert the plugs, then screw the channel down. Snap the rubber insert back in to conceal the fixings. For the self-adhesive option, apply a suitable exterior-grade adhesive to the underside of the channel.
Can it be cut to length?
Yes. Cut the aluminium channel with a mitre saw or angle grinder with a metal cutting disc. Cut the rubber insert with a sharp utility knife or hacksaw.
What is the difference between 0.91m and 1.8m?
0.91m suits narrower external steps or where a single short length is needed. 1.8m covers wider steps or can be cut to provide two shorter lengths from one piece.
